Lab #17- Day of Silence

Yo! This is Caake. For this lab, we asked fellow Caake member to particapate in a Day of Silence. Kelly decided to keep quiet for a day to raise awareness about the need to recyle. Being a very talkitive person, she really made a point with the silence. People asked her why she was not talking, and she held up signs that told them of cause. Kelly noticed a psotive response. After the "day" was over, she noticed people who had come up to her were recyling their pop bottles and using the recyling bins in the Pickle more then they had in the past. Pictured here, Kelly is showing her efforts to recyling, she keeps a box in her room of all the things that can be recycled. When it gets full, Kelly and her roommate go to the recyling center together and empty it. Not only is she saving the earth but she is promoting her social capitol!

  1. I like how you did a Day Of Silence for something as simple, but very important, as recycling! Usually it is done for HIV or gay rights, so I thought it was a nice change and very unique reason to hold this day of silence. Good job.

  2. this is a really good way to get ur voice heard about what you believe in, ironically.. Recycling was a good choice here on campus, because its so easy for people to do their part. i'm sure people were inspired by your Day of Silence.

  4. I agree with Sara. In the past I have participated in days of silence for Aids and Cancer, and although these things need to be recognized there is not much we personally, can do about it. Recycling is something we can all do. And as Kelly mentioned, it increases our social capital when we go to the recycling center.

  5. I really like Kelly's approach to this lab. She is a member of S.A.A.V.E and every little bit counts. Kelly is defintely one of my closest underclassman friends and I know that she is very chatty. Having Kelly be silent for a cause would shock me and would cause me to "listen" to her advice because I trust her. Recycling is so easy and to take a stand like this for something small makes a strong impact on her peers.
